After the party: get the photos out before they go

Your event closes by itself, the photos stay for a while, and then they are deleted. Here is when, and what to do before then.

Getting started
4 min read

The party ends in one place and your event ends in another. The second one happens by itself, and it is worth knowing when, because there is a date on which the photos are deleted for good.

Here is the whole sequence, in the order it happens.

1. The event closes by itself

Your event has an end date, set when you created it. Once it passes, the event turns finished and guests can no longer share photos.

You get an email about it. Nothing else changes: the photos are still there and you can still see all of them.

Pro tip: The most common regret is an end date that landed in the middle of the night while the party was still going. Check it before the day, not after.

2. The photos sit through the retention period

After the party there is a period where everything stays put. How long depends on the package you chose, and the date is shown on your event.

We remind you three times: 30 days, 7 days and 1 day before the photos are deleted. The emails are automatic, so it does not need to go in your calendar.

3. Get out what you want to keep

This is the part that matters, and it takes two minutes.

Everything as a ZIP. Request a download from your event. We pack the photos and videos in the background, and you can close the page while it runs: you get an email when the file is ready, and a small status box sits in the corner while it is packed.

The link to the finished ZIP works for a day. If you need the files again later, just request a new download.

The greetings as a PDF. If you used photo greetings, you can download them as a PDF with the photos and the messages together. That file is what makes the greetings a guest book rather than a comment field, and it is worth printing.

A single photo. If you only need one, you can download it straight from the gallery without packing up the whole party.

4. When the retention period ends

On that date the photos and videos are permanently deleted. They cannot be recovered afterwards, not by us either, and the event is left archived.

Before deleting we put aside a backup ZIP you can download from your dashboard for a short window. It is an emergency exit, not a plan. Count on the date, not on the backup.

What to do that same week

Download the ZIP and put it in two places. One copy on the computer and one in whichever cloud you already use. A ZIP on a desktop is not a backup.

Read the greetings while they still mean something. The private ones are only for you, and those are the ones worth sitting down with.

Share the link with the people who could not come. As long as the event is not archived, they can still see the gallery.

Look at what you actually used. If you ran out of room along the way, that is the only useful measurement you will get for next time. The storage guide does the arithmetic.
